I guess in a way it’d be nice to be able to say that I’m doing this trip for a wholly altruistic reason. That I’m raising money for charity, or spreading awareness about a worthwhile cause.
The truth is that this is an entirely selfish venture. The only thing I’ve ever felt I’ve excelled at is mediocrity, and this, perhaps, is my way of proving to myself otherwise. I know I’m not the first to do this, nor the fastest nor furthest. I’ve prepared more, faced fewer adversities, and have the encouragement, support and thoughts of everyone close to me. Well most of them. But it is the simple knowledge that if I complete this, whether in a year, whether in two, whether in one go, or whether with occasional vists to the UK to remind me that there is maybe, hopefully something waiting back for there for me, it is that simple knowledge that I’ve done this myself, and that no one can ever take that away from me, no matter what the future brings.
Whether you’re commuting to work, or setting off across the World, there’s something wholly unique about cycling.
It’s the chance to see things at a slower pace, while still knowing that every mile travelled is one that you’ve done on your own.
For me, cycling around the World is also the chance to find out more about myself, what I want in life, and what I’m capable of.
And I’m hoping I’ll find that I’m capable of cycling around the World.
And that there are things at home to come back to.

Christ Cliff, I read this and almost wept, or maybe its the lack of sleep from last nights Karaoke adventures, naaah! Feeling all melancholy about you going and you havent even left yet, there’s still the drunken BBQ to get thru.
Wuv you, missing you already, have a fantastic journey, dont miss a second of it.
