Katadyn Pocket Filter
£200 fron Snow and Rock
We carried this filter for 6000km, and I can safely say it was a waste of space. The filter itself works fantastically well, giving a 0.2 micron filtration. It’s a sturdy, robust design and filters water surprisingly quickly (stated speed is 1 litre a minute). I’ve got nothing against the actual filter, but wouldn’t recommend it for a trip like this.
There was only one instance where we used this to filter water we couldn’t have purchased from anywhere, but I’m still not convinced that it was worth the weight.
Montbell Compact Dripper 2
I was given this as a gift from my friend in Japan, and haven’t been able to find it in the UK. If you want fresh coffee in the morning, then this is for you. Reusable and washable, this pops on top of a cup easily with a couple of chopsticks or twigs, if you’re not carrying around chopsticks (for some reason).
Not the most essential of items, but being able to make real coffee is rather nice.
