Double Dunwich Dynamo, July 2010

This was originally to be the date that we left – cycle off into the sunset (literally!) to the Suffolk coast, and never come back.

Instead, to make the most of this beautiful ride we decided to do the 400km there and back.

Never underestimate how difficult this ride is, physically and mentally. This is the only ride where I’ve wished during the course of it that I was anywhere else, preferably somewhere warm and soft. But without the option to quit.

More info as always here, at the Southwark Cyclists’ Site.

Or else I found this YouTube timelapse video of the 2009 event sums up my feelings nicely (which sadly I had to miss due to a lack of arms)…

And as always, I’m looking forward to hearing in my mind these words on the ride, stolen from LCC, stolen from MOAB:

“Somewhere during the night you will hear a voice say, “Why am I doing this? I am never doing this again!” Look forward to this voice. Welcome it. Laugh at it. Embrace it. Look forward to hearing it again next year. Just know that it will come and that you will ride past it and be stronger when it fades into the shadows.”
